About
I paint for the pure joy and challenge of recreating a life moment on a flat piece of paper. My goal is to engage those who view my art to react with feelings and memories of their own. I am a self taught artist, and I live in beautiful Burlington County NJ, within the Pinelands National Reserve, an area made up of more than 1 million acres of protected forests and farmland.
Thirty five years ago I picked up a stencil and decorated my daughter's toy box. This led to my love of stenciling. I eventually opened my own stencil shop and studio where I taught classes, upcycled furniture pieces and provided custom painting and murals. As my clients grew, requests for things outside of the realm of stenciling forced me to explore my own artistic side, without the “safety net” of a stencil. Acrylic paints were my medium of choice until three years ago when I began experimenting with watercolor under the direction of Marie Zukoff.
Founding member of Serendipity, a group of 3 local artists that paint and exhibit together. Serendipity has exhibited by invitation at the Ewing Arts Commission, Studio67Medford and The Lyceum Hall Center for the Arts in Burlington City, NJ.
I show my work regularly at The Gallery at Whitesbog, as well as several local venues and juried shows including the Burlington County Senior Art Show, Studio67 Medford, , Burlington County Juried Art Show and Exhibit as well as Medford Arts Center where I am a Signature Member Artist. I am a member of the Willingboro Art Alliance and I co-chair the Leisuretowne Art Club in my community.
Artist Statement
As an evolving self-taught artist, I resist the urge to confine my art within a specific category. I believe that the basis of artistic growth is about experimentation and taking risks while always being able to embrace even failure as part of the journey. Surrounding myself with other artists and styles of work fuels my learning and evolution as an artist. Watercolor is my latest obsession. Ironically, it is a medium I purposefully avoided for years, intimidated by its unpredictability. Today, I embrace the fluidity and freedom of watercolor, enjoying the dance of paint through water.
My painting process begins with inspiration, often found in nature. The Pine Barrens of New Jersey, despite their name, are rich with hidden beauty and are anything but barren. For me, beauty is just a hike away. I like to think of my paintings as a glimpse into the paths less traveled, literally and figuratively. My hope is to capture the beauty and share it with those who view my art. Each piece is an invitation to explore and appreciate the unnoticed splendor in the world around us.
